Creating videos for an online or hybrid course can feel intimidating. Annie Speicher, Digital Media Specialist, and Anna Luce, Learning Engineer, of Northwestern IT have created a workshop series that will simplify the process and give you the confidence to create course videos that are attractive, engaging, and impactful.

This series is composed of four synchronous meetings: two group meetings that cover best practices and basics for recording and editing, and two individual consultations with an expert to help you plan your recordings and edit your footage.

  1. Video and Recording Basics: A 1.5-hour meeting with your cohort of up to four other instructors. This meeting covers basic recording instructions, overview of equipment needs, and best practices for pedagogically sound videos. During this meeting, you will also have an opportunity to share your goals for your course videos.
  2. Location and Equipment Consultation: A one-on-one online consultation to find the best place in your home or office for recording and to set up any equipment you have available to you.
  3. Post-Production Basics: A 1-hour meeting with your cohort. This meeting covers basic editing and media management and presents an opportunity to share your recording experience with your peers.
  4. Video Editing and Refinement: A one-on-one consultation to help you with any editing questions and to put the final touches on your videos.
